Fraud in Middle Tennessee: What you need to know about the “Fraudulent Seller Scam.”

*Fraud Facts: Imposter Seller is attempting to sell & receive sales proceeds of vacant/unimproved land they don’t own.

How it works:
  • Non Local imposter Seller contacts you to list vacant/unimproved land. May mention Zillow or similar.
  • You probably have never met the client
  • Rush closing is typically requested
  • Identity theft may be involved.
  • Seller wants to sign remotely or by power of attorney
  • 22 known fraud attempts in 3rd/4th qtr 2022 (Williamson, Davidson, Rutherford)

If an unknown client contacts you and the situation is remotely similar, please alert Title – a call to law enforcement may be appropriate.
